Loneliness as a Postcolonial Condition: Alienation, Migration, and the Quest for Belonging in Desai’s Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny

Abstract

The paper grapples with the elements of migration, displacement, and belongings in the novel: The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunnay by Kiran Desai, through the lens of post colonial theory by Homi K Bhaba and Edward Said. Migration and displacement is an essential part in human existence, when  human beings are forced to move away from their own culture, land and religions, they will feel absolutely helpless and disconnected from their real identity. This study, however analyzes this strange sate of behaviorism in order to unveil the reality through analytical discussion, especially through post colonial lenses by Homi K bBhaba and Edward Said. Additionally, the study also examines that, the displacements and cultural dislocations are profound sources of loneliness; how the concept of home and loneliness fractures the identities and Isolation.
